Europe sizzled in its first major heat wave of the summer on Tuesday. Barcelona recorded its hottest June in over a century.

Health warnings remained in effect in several European countries. The worst was felt in southern Europe while punishing temperatures were forecast to reach 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit).

As a heat wave scorches most of Europe, the Eiffel Tower announced it will be closing early on Tuesday with France expected to hit triple-digit temperatures. With temperatures in Paris expected to reach 38.
