The Mavericks have agreed to a 2-year, $13 million contract with D'Angelo Russell in NBA free agency to serve as Kyrie Irving's backup.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Dallas Mavericks guard is currently "undecided" about utilizing his player option for 2025-26. The deadline for Irving to opt-in is Tuesday and it would be worth $43 million. "One source close to the process told The Stein Line that Irving's course, as of Monday night, was still being decided," Stein wrote.
