The Maserati MC20 supercar has been a critical success, if not exactly a sales success. Despite that, the Italian automaker has decided to cancel production of the all-electric version, dubbed the MC20 Folgore. The move signals a retreat from Maserati's earlier commitment to go all-electric by 2030 and launch six EVs by 2026.

Maserati had big EV plans. Emphasis on had. The brand's plan to go fully electric with a lineup of Folgore models (Italian for lightning) were announced in mid 2022. Maserati said

Maserati has officially announced the cancellation of the MC20 Folgore, an all-electric supercar that had been highly anticipated as a spearhead for the brand's electric vehicle strategy. Originally unveiled in 2020,

First announced in 2020 when the gas-powered MC20 was unveiled, the Folgore version was supposed to arrive this year, but now it will never see the light of day.

Maserati was planning to introduce an all-electric avatar of the MC20 supercar, since the internal combustion engine powered model debuted in 2020. Five years down the road, the MC20 Folgore electric supercar was expected to launch in 2025.

“In light of this, Maserati is currently managing the manufacturing ramp-up of the GT2 Stradale version of the MC20 in Modena, which will be available to North American customers this summer, but has decided to discontinue the MC20 BEV Project due to a perceived lack of commercial interest.”
