The Trump administration has brought the detention facility back into the limelight by transporting migrants to the remote outpost aboard U.S. military aircraft. Over the past week, seven military flights have transferred at least 112 illegal migrants to the base, with plans to expand capacity significantly.

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit on Wednesday seeking access to dozens of migrants flown to a U.S. naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, saying they were being denied the right to an attorney.

"He was running from the very gang they are accusing him of being in," said the family of a man transferred to the federal detention at Guantanamo Bay.
