A New Mexico State Police officer fired "at least one shot" at a man in southwestern Santa Fe and wounded him Friday afternoon during a welfare check that turned violent, state police Chief Troy Weisler said in a video on social media Saturday.

An investigation is underway after a state police shooting in Santa Fe. New Mexico State Police said the shooting happened on Reata Road. The suspect was injured in the shooting and taken into custody. Police officers are okay, according to NMSP. The public is being asked to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
