Instagram has announced a major update to its Reels feature, letting users upload videos as long as three minutes. The change doubles the previous limit of just 90 seconds. The decision was announced by Instagram's head, Adam Mosseri, who said the modification was done based on user feedback that "90 seconds is just too short."

The updates come just as TikTok, one of Instagram’s biggest competitors in the short-form video space, faces a ban in the U.S. following a Supreme Court ruling.

This will be different from your friends tab on Reels, which shows you all the videos made and posted by the accounts you follow. This is more reminiscent of the TikTok algorithm,
