San Francisco Pride Parade marched, danced and skipped down Market Street in an array of music, dancing, a sea of rainbows and costumes to celebrate the “Queer Joy is Resistance” theme of one of the largest LGBTQ celebrations in the country on Sunday.

“Pride, from its origin, is not only a celebration, it’s also a protest,” Sharat Lin, a longtime activist from San Jose who was at the parade for Dance with Pride, told SFGATE. “Here in San Francisco, where almost everybody supports LGBTQ rights, it’s easy to forget that. But it wasn’t always that way. It was part of a struggle.”

As Pride weekend kicks off in San Francisco, a large crowd rallied in Dolores Park on Friday for the Trans March. SkyFOX flew over the area to get a better look as the crowd prepared to march down Market Street.
