The Lebanese Hezbollah group Sunday announced the funeral of its longtime leader will take place on February 23, months after he was assassinated in a series of Israeli airstrikes in a southern Beirut suburb.

The funeral for Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah will be held on February 23, the group's current chief said on Sunday, months after his predecessor's death in an Israeli air strike.Nasrallah was killed in a huge Israeli air strike on Beirut's southern suburbs on September 27,

Secretary-General Naim Kassem made the announcement regarding his predecessor Hassan Nasrallah in a pre-recorded speech. It came days after a U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement that ended the war between the Lebanese militant group and Israel was extended until Feb 18.

Hassan Nasrallah received a temporary burial as hostilities with Israel did not allow for a funeral to take place.

Nasrallah was killed on Sept. 27 after a series of Israeli airstrikes struck several buildings in a southern Beirut suburb.

Gaza Hezbollah's former leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli air strike in September, will be buried in Beirut's southern suburbs, a traditional heartland for the group, its new secretary general has confirmed.
