Texas Tech football fans flocking to the first game of the season in Lubbock will notice a new name on the Red Raiders' stadium - but it's a name that's not exactly new to West Texas.

The Texas Tech football venue has changed to Galaxy Stadium, dropping the longtime Jones name. Now the Jones Student Section will honor the history.

After a contract expiration, Jones AT&T Stadium was renamed to Galaxy Stadium after a $75 million deal was struck with the data center infrastructure company. Texas Tech, however, announced plans to keep the history of "The Jones" alive and well in West Texas.

Perhaps it is an upstart and not contenders Houston and Arizona State that poses Red Raiders' biggest threat.
