American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:AAL) formally asked the U.S. Supreme Court to reverse a lower-court decision that found its now-scrapped U.S. Northeast partnership with JetBlue Airways (JBLU) violated federal antitrust law.

American Airlines has requested that US Supreme Court evaluate its blocked Northeast Alliance partnership with JetBlue.

To survive, JetBlue’s leadership has acknowledged that the Queens-based carrier needs an airline partnership of some sort to help it grow its offerings and better compete in the industry. JetBlue’s CEO Marty St. George emphasized last month that the airline is eager to revive its Northeast Alliance.

The U.S. District Court in Massachusetts ruled against American's partnership with JetBlue, and AA lost its appeal last November. Now the airline wants to take its case to the Supreme Court.
