KENTUCKY, USA — Kentucky saw an increase in voter registration despite there being no elections in the Commonwealth. Secretary of State Michael Adams announced Monday that 7,099 new Kentucky voters registered in October. Adams says he believes this is due to a growing interest in the 2026 elections.

The Dec. 16 special election is to fill the District 37 Senate seat left vacant when Yates took over as Jefferson County clerk following the death of longtime clerk Bobbie Holsclaw. Democrat Gary Clemons and Republican Calvin Leach are facing off for the seat.

The machine they examined is designated for mail-in ballots. The upcoming special election is for the in Frankfort that Yates vacated, which is the District 37 state Senate seat. That election is happening on Tuesday, Dec. 16.
