President Joe Biden used his farewell speech Wednesday to call out what he referred to as a nascent oligarchy in the United States. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Google Analytics appears to show that a lot of Americans had no idea what he was talking about.

Popular video sharing app TikTok is facing a potential ban in the US if Biden administration does not give assurances to Google and Apple.

The U.S. Supreme Court officially upheld the law to ban the TikTok social media app on Friday.

ReelShort, another social media app, has also witnessed a spike in popularity amid the potential TikTok ban. It is currently sitting at seventh rank in the App Store and second on Google Play.

Biden's farewell speech warning that oligarchs pose a threat to democracy has echoed a growing problem in the world, economic and historical experts say.

The Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu, also referred to as RedNote in English, has sprung to supremacy as the top free app on iPhone as the ban on TikTok took effect Sunday, drawing the ire of U.

As TikTok was officially banned in the US last night, users received an unexpected pop-up message about incoming president Donald Trump. The hugely popular social media platform – owned by Chinese tech firm ByteDance – was no longer available on Apple and Google ’s app stores by 10.50pm EST.

TikTok is reportedly prepared to shut down its app on Sunday, when the ban is scheduled to take effect, though the actual language of the law technically only mandates that the platform be taken off app stores to prevent new users from downloading it.

"Wow, you really waited until your last day at work to start stuffing the suggestion box," was Meyers' sarcastic praise for Biden's farewell.

“A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can’t use TikTok for now,” the message read in part. The app was also unavailable on the Apple and Google Play stores, along with Lemon8 and CapCut, which are also owned by TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance.
