Tax season has officially opened. Starting Monday, tax returns can be filed for 2024 income. This year the Internal Revenue Service is making it easier for more people to file online for free, through its Direct File program. That was introduced last year as a pilot, and this year it is being expanded.

The IRS expects more than 140 million returns for Tax Year 2024, with changes for third-party payment platforms and important tax credits to consider.
