Carmel swimmers cheered and jumped on the pool deck, leaning toward senior Alex Shackell as she swam toward them and secured a win in the 100-yard breaststroke at a dual meet against Pike on Jan. 16.

Alex Shackell won gold and silver medals at the Paris Olympics as part of Team USA's relay teams. Shackell capped her Carmel career with a 4-year sweep of the 100 butterfly at the IHSAA state meet.
