As wildfires continued to tear through Southern California communities, having Salt Lake City ready for a catastrophic event isn’t lost on Mayor Erin Mendenhall. The mayor said though the city is prepared with water and resources, the thought of a major fire still keeps her up at night.

Palmer Court in Salt Lake City is hoping to redesign its supportive housing campus and potentially add more housing units in the future.

It also looks to “expedite” the development of deeply affordable housing and the creation of temporary emergency shelter, including the use of city-owned property for a campus facility for up to 24 months,
