The White House on Friday announced that it has indefinitely banned The Associated Press (AP) from accessing the Oval Office and Air Force One indefinitely, CNN reported. The news agency was singled out by the White House earlier this week over its use of the words: "Gulf of Mexico.

The barring came after the news outlet refused to recognize the Trump administration’s decision to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

The White House barred an Associated Press reporter and photographer from boarding the presidential airplane Friday for a weekend trip with Donald Trump, saying the news agency’s stance on how to refer to the Gulf of Mexico was to blame for the exclusion.

NYT columnist David Brooks said he understood why the Trump administration barred the AP from the Oval office and Air Force One, despite being appalled by it.
