The long-lost city of Aten, near Luxor, was initially discovered in 2021 and has now been fully excavated, offers insights into ancient gold extraction methods.

Archaeologists have discovered the tomb of Pharaoh Thutmose II in a side valley of the Valley of the Kings. This is the first discovery of a royal tomb in Egypt since Tutankhamun's and the last missing tomb of the 18th Dynasty.

On Feb. 18, Egyptian officials announced the discovery of the tomb of King Thutmose II, making it the last of the lost tombs of the kings of Egypt's Eighteenth Dynasty that reigned between 1550 and 1292 B.C.E. and the first royal Egyptian tomb to be discovered since that of King Tut more than a century ago.

Thutmose II, who reigned from 1493 to 1479 BCE, was identified as the occupant via his name carved on shards of alabaster.

The tomb was empty, and the location of the mummy is in dispute.
