Southwest first announced the change last summer, where they said they will switch to assigned seating for the first time in the airline’s history.

Tickets for assigned seating will go on sale next week as the airline continues to shed the features that once made its brand stand out.

Southwest Airlines will launch assigned seating in January amidst implementation of extra fees, legroom changes and boarding process changes.
