Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine is expected to appoint his lieutenant governor, Jon Husted, to the Senate seat recently vacated by Vice President-elect JD Vance, two sources with knowledge of the decision told NBC News.

According to a press release from the Office of the Governor, this Certificate of Appointment was signed by Gov. DeWine in Washington D.C. as he was surrounded by members of his family who traveled there for the presidential inauguration. Husted will assume the office of U.S. Senator when he is officially sworn in and takes the oath of office.

The anticipated appointment will end weeks of speculation about who will join newly minted Sen. Bernie Moreno in Washington.
