According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), satellite images indicate that the large area of cloudiness and thunderstorms in the North Atlantic known as 98L is gradually becoming better organized. As a result, conditions appear to be favorable for a tropical depression to form during the next couple of days as the system moves toward the west-northwest and then northwest toward the open waters of the central Atlantic. 98L is currently located about 500 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verd

This imagery, from the GOES East satellite, shows the eye wall of Hurricane Matthew hugging the coast of Central Florida. According to the National Hurricane Center, Matthew is moving up the coast toward the north-northwest near 13 miles per hour.
