You've seen us rescue a variety of inflatables, but this one is a first 👀 RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat were called out to reports of a person stranded on an inflatable mattress that was quickly being blown out to sea. After falling into the water, the casualty managed to self-recover back onto the mattress, but with water temperatures of just 7°C, they were wet, cold and in need of a lifeboat crew. Watch as our amazing RNLI West Kirby Lifeboat volunteers rescue three walkers and their dogs. The group became immersed in water up to their shoulders as a result of a fast-incoming tide. Six crew members at RNLI Arbroath Lifeboat paid the ultimate price trying to save lives at sea on this day in 1953. Launching into stormy seas at midnight in response to distress flares they found no vessel. But conditions in the harbour prevented them from returning home. The crew decided to wait the night out at sea. As the community gathered to await the crew's return, the lights on the lifeboat went out. Cries for help were heard.
